Abstract

In the conditions of informatization of modern society, media have become an important factor in the socialization of the individual. Due to the pandemic caused by the spread of COVID-19, as well as taking into account martial law, the system of distance education, which involves the use of modern media resources, has gained recognition and spread. However, its importance should not be exaggerated, since along with the advantages there are also a number of disadvantages, the understanding of which is carried out by the scientific community. It is proven that along with a sufficient substantive diversity of research on the problem of mediatization of modern society, there are no attempts to systematize the accumulated empirical material.
Based on the evolutionary principle, empirical generalizations of scientists regarding the dangers and opportunities that the mediatization of society opens up as a factor in the socialization of student youth have been systematized. It has been established that at the stage of primary socialization, the dangers are of an emotional and perceptual nature (the problem of violence and aggressive manifestations, restrictions on social contacts, impoverishment of the emotional sphere and the emergence of a tendency to be excluded from social life), and the opportunities are associated with the expansion of cognitive abilities in the preschool period and the acceleration of mental development. At the stage of secondary socialization, which occurs in adolescence and youth, the dangers acquire a rational and value-motivational character (manifestations of information pressure and manipulation of consciousness, primitivization of intellectual processes, violation of identity, Internet addiction). The opportunities are associated with access to cultural heritage, the use of the potential of informal education, the creation of interactive platforms, and the increase in forms of creative self-expression.
