FOREIGN APPROACHES TO THE UNDERSTANDING OF LEADERSHIP AS AN IMPORTANT PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALITY OF A MODERN EDUCATION MANAGER
Abstract
The article examines foreign approaches to the understanding leadership as an important personal and professional quality of a modern education manager. The views of foreign scientists regarding the definition of "educational leadership" have been studied.
In the research, the main attention is focused on the peculiarities of implementation of the ideas of educational leadership and improving the quality of school education in foreign countries. The authors analyzed the results of international researches and the scientific developments of modern researchers on the specified problem. Having analyzed various approaches to the problem of educational leadership, it was found that they usually use the following leadership styles in their practice: "cleaner"; "peacemaker"; "planner"; "general"; "partner"; "authority"; "coach". It is generalized that each of these styles of educational leadership has its own strengths and weaknesses, but all heads of educational institutions, in our opinion, should strive to apply an innovative leadership style in their work. Since without the use of innovations in education, life stands still, and progress is impossible.
Three possible directions of professional development of the head of an educational institution as an educational leader have been characterized.
It is summarized that leadership plays an important role in creating the conditions for success at all levels. Education managers have direct impact on creating lasting links between different levels of education, between families, the labour market and the local community to achieve better learning outcomes for learners. It is noted that educational leadership has become a priority in education policy programs at the national and international levels today. Educational leadership plays a key role in improving the quality of education and educational results in educational institutions, and it also has an impact on the motivation, formation and development of professional qualification of teachers, as well as on the educational environment. It is emphasized that today in various countries there is concern that the role of the director of an educational institution corresponds to the needs of the past, and today it is necessary to train modern educational leaders. These changes in higher education systems around the world have led to the emergence of new educational leadership programs. Therefore, today, the training of the future educational leaders at the master’s level of higher education should improve the quality of school leadership and make it resistant to modern challenges.
