MODERN TRENDS IN THE FORMATION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE LISTENING COMPETENCE
Abstract
The article analyzes modern approaches to the formation of foreign language listening competence of pupils / students and identifies opportunities to improve the learning process. The conclusion about expediency of differentiated development of mental processes (perception, thinking, memory, attention), psychological mechanisms (speech hearing, inner speech, anticipation, comprehension; short-term memory, mechanism of differentiation and identification), and also mechanisms of information analysis (mechanism of substitutions, decoding, compression, expansion (use of background knowledge), transformation (replacement of grammatical or syntactic structures)), formation of appropriate skills(especially lexical and phonetic), auditory skills as well as their integrated development, including integration with other speech skills and the ability to use compensatory, cognitive and metacognitive strategies; formation of students’ ability to use these strategies; the development of students’ reflective self-evaluation, including the use of the suggested self-assessment worksheets, which help determine the causes of listening errors associated with decoding processes, building the meaning of the message, incorrect use of compensatory and metacognitive strategies, their further elimination, and hence the autonomy of pupils / students from partial to conditionally complete depending on age and individual characteristics; focusing on intensive, interactive and especially extensive and autonomous listening in order to develop pupils’ / students’ autonomy, which is a necessary condition for the formation of the ability to learn throughout life, has been made.We see prospects for further research in the analysis of the possibilities of using different types of listening in terms of blended and distant learning.
