The article focuses on the periodization of the development of foreign language training of students at technical higher education institutions in Ukraine from the 1940s to the early twenty-first century). It is emphasised that the complexity of periodizing historical and pedagogical phenomena and processes stems from the fact that their formation and development take place within the context of profound socio-political, socio-economic, and socio-cultural changes and transformations in society.
Based on the analysis of the development of foreign language training of students at technical higher education institutions in Ukraine from the 1940s to the early twenty-first century, and with due consideration of relevant scholarly research, the regulatory and legal framework of higher education, and archival materials from the period under review, four distinct periods have been identified. The first period, reconstruction and recovery (1940-1960), is subdivided into two subperiods: (1) 1940–1950 and (2) 1951–1960. The second period, organizational and institutional development (1961-1990), is also divided into two subperiods: (1) 1961–1968 and (2) 1969–1990. The third period, systemic development and renewal (1991–2013), includes two subperiods: (1) 1991–2007 and (2) 2008–2013. The fourth period, convergence and integration (2014–2024), is divided into two subperiods: (1) 2014–2016 and (2) 2017–2024.
It is noted that the development of foreign language training of students at technical higher education institutions in Ukraine during the period under consideration was shaped by a range of factors, including: social, economic and political, organisational and legal, as well as historical and cultural.
