UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN RESEARCH OF UKRAINIAN COMPARATIVISTS: THE PRO-EUROPEAN VECTOR
Abstract
The article analyses the European vector of Ukrainian comparativists' research on the development of higher and university education in order to determine achievements, challenges and prospects for the formation of the historiography of this problem.
It is demonstrated that Ukraine’s focus on integration into the European Higher Education Area has intensified the study of foreign experiences in the development of higher and university education. At the beginning of the 21st century, this topic became a priority in Ukrainian pedagogical comparative studies and other fields. This resulted in the accumulation of a vast body of diverse works on the subject — dissertations, monographs, textbooks, articles, conference materials, and more.
It is found that Ukrainian historiography on the development of foreign higher and university education is complex and multifaceted. Its interdisciplinary nature is evident in studies across various fields, including the philosophy of education, pedagogical comparative studies, management, economics, and finance. Based on the geographical and thematic focus of the research, five conventionally interconnected categories of works can be distinguished within this historiography, where higher and university education is examined: 1) as part of global and regional education systems; 2) in the context of the "Bologna Process/European Education Area – foreign countries – Ukraine"; 3) in specific regions (primarily European); 4) in various countries; 5) with a focus on specific research subjects.
An analysis of representative studies (dissertations, monographs, textbooks, research projects, scientific articles, etc.) within the five historiographic categories has been conducted. The main trends, achievements, challenges, and prospects for the historiographic process in this area have been analysed.
