It is emphasized that in 2010 the Presidium of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine approved "The Concept of the implementation of media education in Ukraine", and in 2016 - its new edition. The stages of implementation of the Concept have been also outlined.
Both editions of the Concept have the same structure (basic terms, goals and tasks of media education, etc.), but in 2016 the text was clarified, updated and supplemented taking into account the realities of the time.
The purpose of the Concept, in particular, is to promote the development of the media education system for the preparation of children and youth for interaction with the media, which will be sufficiently safe and effective.
It is noted that a lot has been done so far. Dissertation studies, monographs, educational and teaching-methodical manuals, scientific articles on relevant issues have been written by scientists and practicing teachers for various age groups of education seekers and a wide range of those interested in media education issues. Some examples of such works have been given and characterized.
The special role and considerable contribution of the Academy of the Ukrainian Press in solving the problems of media education in Ukraine has been shown. Some directions of the work of this Academy and the obtained results have been presented.
It has been concluded that media education in the country is currently developing rapidly; it has clearly defined orientations and prospects in "The Concept for the implementation of media education in Ukraine"; it is gradually moving to a higher level and covers more and more age groups of different strata of the population.
The prospects of further scientific investigations regarding the definition and substantiation of the most effective forms and methods of media education, primarily for children and youth, have been outlined.
