COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING OF STUDENTS IN ENGINEERING AND TECHNICAL SPECIALTIES (AT THE BEGINNING OF THE XXI CENTURY)

Abstract

Based on the analysis of modern researches, the peculiarities of communicative language teaching of higher education students in engineering and technical specialties at the beginning of the XXI century have been characterized in the article. The need to shift the orientation of foreign language training from the acquisition of formal, factual knowledge to the acquisition of a purposeful dynamic system of practical skills, meaningful actions and their application in real life situations through communicative language teaching has been substantiated.
The need for communicative language teaching to take into account the specific needs and requests of each individual group of students through the implementation of such language courses as English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Specific Purposes (ESP), English for Business Purpose (EBP), English for Engineers (English for Engineers), etc. to solve specific problems has been presented.
It is noted that the involvement of professionally significant situations during foreign language training ensures the manifestation and elevation of cognitive interest and motivation of higher education students in engineering and technical specialties to study a foreign language and its further use both for personal and professional purposes. It is emphasized that the communicative practice of using the language in a real communicative context, where the exchange of relevant information takes place, allows students to acquire skills of adaptation to communicative interaction with a foreigner.
To the prospects of further scientific investigations, we will include the study of the possibilities of combining various forms, methods and means of communicative language teaching with the aim of obtaining the highest possible quality result of foreign language training for students in engineering and technical specialties of technical higher education institutions of Ukraine.
