Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of edutainment technology in foreign language training of students of engineering-technical and economic specialties.
The role of edutainment technology is emphasized and it is stated that this technology helps to avoid the passivity of students by creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere; makes it possible to actively involve all participants in the educational process and create subject-to-subject communicative interaction among them; promotes much easier memorization of a significant amount of professionally oriented terminology, gives an opportunity to show initiative and efficiency in the process of solving educational problems, to avoid various kinds of barriers, etc.
It is emphasized that the key feature of this technology is the involvement of various types of modern technologies in lectures, practical and seminar classes, computer workshops, master classes, independent work assignments, etc., which are traditional for higher education institutions. It is emphasized that without computer multimedia technologies and programs (Quizlet, Kahoot, Polleverywhere, Mentimeter, Socrative, Tricader, ThingLink, etc.), television programs, computer and video games, movies, videos, audio, music, podcasts, web-sites, etc., it is impossible to imagine the modern foreign language training of higher education students.
It is noted that the edutainment technology ensures the manifestation and elevation of students’ cognitive interest in foreign language learning and its further use for both personal and professional purposes. The relaxed atmosphere gives an opportunity to avoid tension, inattention and sets students up for activity, which is one of the prerequisites for the success of the educational process.
