WINCENTY OKOŃ’S EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES: HISTORY AND MODERN CONTEXT

Abstract

The article reflects the life, educational, scientific and managerial activities of Wincenty Okoń – a world-famous Polish scientist, professor at the University of Warsaw, member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, founder of the Polish Pedagogical Society, editor of Polish pedagogical journals, honorary member of the Polish Game Research Society.
The significant contribution of the Polish educator to the development of Didactics, Higher School Pedagogy, Pedeutology (science about a teacher), History of Pedagogy, Comparative Pedagogy has been noted. W. Okoń substantiated the principles of problem-based learning, multilateral learning; developed the problems of game and funpsychology and Pedagogy; proved the need to develop student activity in the acquisition of knowledge, readiness for lifelong learning, which today is interpreted as a key competence. The scientist’s belief in the partnership of teachers, parents and students is embedded in the formula of the Concept of the New Ukrainian School.
Prospects for the use of W. Okoń’s ideas in the modern educational field of Ukraine and Poland have been determined: increasing the efficiency of problem-based learning under the condition of implementation with group forms of work; unity of processes of acquisition of knowledge, education of students’ values, will, beliefs; formation of independence and responsibility of the personality as a way to change the world; teacher training to ensure the subjectivity of participants in the educational process; development of pedagogical culture of the society as a factor in achieving progress of the country.
The attention has been focused to the fact that the popularization of the ideas of the Polish scientist in Ukraine contributes to the deepening of European integration trends, reproachment of two states and mutual exchange of cultural and moral values. It has been emphasized that the W. Okoń’s life and work are an example to be followed by modern scientists who study current issues of Pedagogy, Psychology and Education Management.
