The article deals with the issues of applying the culturological approach during teaching a foreign language to the post-graduates taking the non-linguistic post-graduate course under conditions of raising the cultural functions of education, providing its culture-centrism, forming and improving the professionally oriented intercultural communicative competence by the post-graduates. It is pointed out that the culturological approach makes it possible to form the personality as a subject of culture and moral, to harmonize the interaction and mutual understanding of the personality with the society, to master and realize the cultural norms and spiritual valuables, to integrate into national and world culture, to develop thinking, communicativeness, creativity and readiness for the creation in the professional sphere. It is underlined that the culturological approach in teaching the foreign language (language is a component of culture, language and culture are inseparably connected) also contributes to the process of the acculturation of the personality, the formation of the polycultural competence, of the polycultural linguistic personality, the ability to participate in the intercultural communication, the readiness to the dialogue of cultures. It is emphasized that the culturological component of learning the foreign language must be carried out taking into account the cognitive function of the language.
