HEALTH EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF PEDAGOGICAL HERITAGE MATTHIAS DEMEL (MACIEJ DEMEL; 1923‒2017)
Abstract
The article is devoted to a topical issue ‒ the education of children and youth to nurture their health. It is stated that the creative heritage of Polish scientists, educators and public educators in the context of this problem deserves special attention, as its rethinking opens a new vision of health education of students in secondary schools of the Ukrainian state. The content of some works of Matthias Demel (Polish: Maciej Demel; 1923‒2017) on the definition of the phenomenon of health education as a pedagogical process, its purpose, tasks and technologies. In this context, the content of the following investigations of the scientist is detailed: «Note from the national conference of school hygiene» (pol. «Notatka z Krajowej Konferencji Higieny Szkolnej»; 1960), «Health education as a pedagogical discipline» (pol. «Wychowanie zdrowotne jako dyscyplina pedagogiczna»; 1965), «About health education» (pol. «O wychowaniu zdrowotnym»; 1968), «Health teacher. Life and work of doctor Stanislav Kopchynski. 1873 – 1933 – 1973» (pol. «Nauczyciel zdrowia. Życie i dzieło doktora Stanisława Kopczyńskiego. 1873 ‒ 1933 – 1973»; 1972), «The purpose of physical and health education and upbringing» (pol. «Cele kształcenia i wychowania fizycznego oraz zdrowotnego»; 1975), «Health pedagogy» (pol. «Pedagоgika zdrowia»; 1980). It is stated that these works of M. Demel contributed to the popularization of the definition of «health education» (pol. wychowanie zdrowotne) in the scientific space of Poland, laid the theoretical foundation of health education as a pedagogical process, announced the conditions, methods, forms and means of its implementation. It was found that the researcher involved personal hygiene, environmental hygiene, food hygiene, occupational hygiene and health, personal safety and public safety, first aid in case of accidents, tempering, optimal motor and physical activity, which is used consciously according to the thematic blocks of health education. individual program, as well as, very interestingly, the basic rules of using the services of «health services» (clinics, hospitals, hospitals), active cooperation of the patient with the doctor during treatment and rehabilitation, and rules related to pharmacological treatment.
