DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF MARITIME EDUCATION AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
Abstract
The issue of digitalization of the educational process in maritime higher education institutions as a result of the transition to the distance learning in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic has been revealed in the article. It is noted that today the process of digital transformation of maritime higher education institutions is an urgent problem. Therefore, this process requires determining the optimal system of organization of education in the system of distance and blended learning, as well as the transformation of the management system of the educational institution into one that can adapt to modifications due to digitalization.
It is emphasised that the need for digital transformation of education and science is considered at the legislative level and it is determined by one of the key goals of the Ministry of Education and Science for 2021.
The basic structure of the system of information pedagogical infrastructure of maritime education institution on the basis of the best achievements of modern maritime education institutions of Ukraine has been analysed.
It is determined that in maritime education institutions distance and blended learning takes place mainly with the use of distance learning system LMS Moodle, which combines the tools of administration, development of training materials, their support, evaluation and communication. The typical structure of the course has been represented, which, in addition to basic, can include interactive elements and information and digital tools using simulation technologies: models, simulators, virtual reality simulators, mannequins etc.
It is concluded that the successful implementation of blended learning in the maritime education system today involves the integration of face-to-face learning using virtual and augmented reality, simulators, special software, multimedia applications, online services and distance learning using LMS Moodle (or other distance learning system). The combination of different technologies for the formation of professional competencies of maritime professionals gives an opportunity to effectively acquire knowledge, form necessary skills with the help of simulators. Thus, it has a high economic effect and learning effectiveness.
