Abstract

The article is devoted to the education in the humanities in maritime educational institutions of Ukraine (1973-1983). The lower limit was chosen 1973, when the law "Approval of the Basics of the Legislation of the USSR and the Soviet Republics about Public Education" was adopted, recognizing as invalid the Law of the USSR «Strengthening of relations between school and life and the further development of the public education system in the USSR», December 24th, 1958 and it was assigned to the Supreme Soviets of the Union Republics to bring into compliance the legislation of the Union Republics with the Basics of the legislation of the USSR and the Union Republics on public education. The upper limit was 1983 as the year before the beginning of one of the largest education reforms, which involved supplementing of the universal secondary education with vocational education for young people, targeting young people to obtain working professions, redistributing resources in favor of vocational education at the expense of the higher education. During this period, we analyzed the condition of maritime transport, the state of education and teaching of humanities in maritime educational institutions of Ukraine. For this purpose, the curriculum of the Maritime College of the Kherson State Maritime Academy and the Kherson office branch of the Nikolaev Shipbuilding Institute were studied to know the number of hours of the humanities in the total number of hours of the curriculum and to determine the subjects studied in each year during 1973-1983. It was found that a small number of hours were devoted to the humanities in the curriculum. Among the humanities studied in maritime educational institutions of Ukraine are foreign language, history, literature, social sciences, social geography, and others. Much attention was paid to special and specialized subjects, as well as ideological disciplines, such as the history of the CPSU, Marxist-Leninist philosophy, scientific communism and atheism. In general, during this period the Soviet fleet developed, which affected the educational sphere.
