Abstract

The article clarifies the meaning of the concept “domestic violence” and describes its types. The attributes of violence are generalized, which may be different, but each of them aggravates the psychological atmosphere in the family, the harmony in the relationship between the parents and children, and causes crime in the society. Physical violence involves abuse, i. e. intentional behaviour, which carries the risk of bodily harm, whether or not it occurs. Psychological violence includes threats and coercion, intimidation, emotional violence - accusations, humiliation, manipulation of guilt. This lowers the child's self-esteem and dignity, and the victims say that they are more injured than if they had been physically abused. The child experiences a pathological environment of violence, and a chronic trauma in a family where there is constant terror and where the normal relationship with parents is significantly broken. Such children have a weak spontaneous desire to learn and create, which is characteristic of successful people.
The problem of domestic violence is global, affecting every society. The problem of domestic violence needs to be addressed not only at the family level, but also at the government level. This is due to the fact that the well-being and development of the state and society depend on the physical and spiritual well-being of the family. Experiencing violence the child feels a lot of emotions that are difficult for it, and in a way causes many destructive forms of behaviour. When the family is the place where the children first experience violence, they generalize the model of their aggressive family to other social situations and institutions (school, peer environment). The consequences of violence in the form of low self-esteem make the children feel insecure and disbelieve in their abilities and capabilities. Once in a difficult situation, they expect failure, not success. The consequences of experiencing violence in the form of guilt, low self-esteem, inadequate self-esteem are especially significant for the further functioning of the adult.
