Professional development of the head of general secondary educational institution through the prism of V. Sukhomlynskyi’s pedagogical heritage

Abstract

The current trends in reforming the system of general secondary education based on the humanization of interpersonal relations in school groups have been analyzed in the article. The attention is focused on the need to provide educational institutions with managers with high-level personal and professional qualities who are capable of implementing educational reform. The retrospective analysis of the views of the outstanding teacher humanist V. Sukhomlynskyi on the characteristic features of the activity of a school principal has been carried out.
The important elements of the professional activity of a head of a general secondary educational institution have been revealed on the examples of pedagogical ideas of the famous teacher, his experience of school management and pedagogical pieces of advice.
V. Sukhomlynskyi's views on the functions of a head of a general secondary educational institution in relation to the formation of partnership and humanistic business relations among participants of an educational process have been studied. The leading theses formulated by V. Sukhomlynskyi concerning the responsibilities of a head of a general secondary educational institution, which determine the direction of his professional development, have been considered.
The importance of leadership, motivational, communicative, organizational, partnership skills in the professional activities of modern heads of general secondary education has been analyzed. Emphasis is placed on the need to develop the professional qualities of management personnel in the system of postgraduate education, in particular the qualities that maintain a favorable friendly atmosphere for teaching and educating students in the educational institution.
Based on the analysis of the pedagogical heritage of V. Sukhomlynskyi and current trends in education reform, the directions of professional development of heads of general secondary educational institutions in the system of postgraduate education have been proposed.
