Abstract

This article considers formative assessment of educational opportunities and intellectual progress of primary school learners as one of the most actual problems of modern pedagogical science. It is underlined that modern teachers face a challenge of mastering various types of assessment, among which there is a formative one.
This issue has received its scientific understanding in the works of such famous scientists as Sh. Amonashvili, B. Ananiev, M. Vashulenko, D. Kolesov, A. Markova, T. Matis, O. Orlov, O. Savchenko, G. Zuckerman etc. It is emphasized that formative assessment has a function of collecting information, which allows teachers to monitor the activities of students and provide feedback with primary learners.
The article substantiates the position that formative assessment is an innovative tool of motivating students to achieve high educational results and personal development. The attributive features of formative assessment such as focus on determining the individual achievements of each student; avoiding admission to compare the academic achievements of different students; extensive use of descriptive evaluation; application of clear assessment criteria by which students are assessed; determining the vector of students' learning and prospects for their development are systematized in the article.
There are some techniques of formative evaluation, which have proved their effectiveness in practice. It is noted that an essential part of formative assessment is a portfolio for each primary learner, which corresponds to the principle of individualization of the development of learners, approved by the concept of the New Ukrainian School. The article generalizes that formative assessment is a tool to support and develop learners. It forms the confidence of each of them, maintains the ability to improve their results, determines further learning tasks and ways to implement them. It is consistently proved that formative assessment is an effective tool of pedagogical activity. It provides perspective for every child to be successful.
