Abstract

The structure and application of student-centered methods of teaching Maritime English, namely the methodology of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) and the methodology of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) are analyzed in the article. Both methodologies of foreign language training are being widely discussed and researched as those connecting academic content with its application in real life. At the same time their special impact on spoken English communicative skills in real professional situations onboard a vessel remains undisclosed A comparative analysis of these two methodologies is provided in terms of their efficiency and acceptability to be applied with cadets of different levels of professional experience, as well as in terms of the role of the teacher in the learning process. The effectiveness of their application for the development of specific communicative competence of maritime cadets is theoretically substantiated. The focus is on assessing how these techniques can improve the language abilities of cadets with different levels of practical experience, ensuring the active participation of the cadets themselves in the process of Both methodologies of foreign language training are being widely discussed and researched as those connecting academic content with its application in real life. education and training.
The results revealed that the CLIL technique is more natural at the initial level of studying Maritime English using a pedagogical approach, while the CTL technique is the main methodology of the andragogical approach to education and training, which is based on problem-oriented training and project activities based on the experience of cadets.
Integrating CLIL and CTL techniques into Maritime English curricula can bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application by providing cadets with an appropriate educational experience that prepares them for real-world maritime scenarios, thereby increasing their overall competence and improving their competitiveness in the international labour market.
